Chris Hedges And Occupy Debate “Black Bloc” Violence (by ebecker2000)
I’m only 15 years old. Sometimes my family can’t afford to buy groceries when we need to. I haven’t been to the doctor in three years because we can’t afford it. I have all symptoms of having diabetes and get scared that I might go into a diabetic coma if I have it. My mom works for the school board and my step dad builds homes. I’ve been seeing and hearing about all these arrests and brutal beatings for the protesters in “Occupy Wall Street.” What I don’t understand is, if the Bill of Rights claims we have freedom of speech then why are we being arrested and beaten down for simply sharing our opinions?? Also, we can spend millions, even billions, of dollars to fund a war but we can’t spend even the slightest bit of that to house the homeless or feed the poor?! The government is taking taxes from the poor and giving it to the rich! The poor are already in debt, their houses are being foreclosed, they’re losing their jobs!! While the rich are living in luxury, the poor are SUFFERING! WE NEED CHANGE!
What ever happened to everyone being equal?

Funny, just last week all the headlines we came across seemed to imply that the protesters were “wearing out their welcome.” A select few:
“Are capitol protesters wearing out their welcome?” FOX News
“‘Occupiers’ wearing out welcome,” Columbus Dispatch
However, for the best description of this media strategy against the protesters, I encourage you to read this excellent article from The Greanville Post, “The media offensive against Occupy Wall Street: ‘protesters wearing out their welcome.’”
It’s a clever strategy, since it’s essentially giving ‘permission’ for the public to feel that they, too, can be exasperated with the protests. In essence, it’s asking the public to side with Mayors Bloomberg (NY), Menino (Boston), Kwan (Oakland) and others - rather than with the protesters who are fighting for everyone’s rights.
Kudos to Greanville for calling them out on the strategy - and the poll numbers reflect the widespread support for the protests as well.
